The Seanad summer recess is at an end. Today s marks the first plenary session since July. I am looking forward to returning to the chamber and making a contribution on behalf of the people.
Colm Burke and I had a good night canvassing last night. The public response this time to the Lisbon Treaty is broadly positive. The majority of people answered that they were voting yes for the Lisbon Treaty. We canvassed in Farranlea road, Park and Victoria Village.
People are worried about their families, jobs, having to pay more tax yet see Ireland being better off in Europe than outside. People are looking for a change of direction as they feel let down by Fianna Fail and the Greens.
Fair play to Colm Burke in continuing his commitment to Fine Gael, The people of Cork and to the European Project.
It was a good night’s canvass.
