Independent investigation still needed
Cork Fine Gael Senator Jerry Buttimer, has welcomed the decision of the Oireachtas Environment Committee at its meeting today (Tuesday) to visit Cork on the 4th and 5th of February in order to meet all relevant parties
to discuss the recent flooding.
“I am glad that the Dáil Environment Committee has agreed to visit Cork to meet with business people, local authorities and residents and all interested parties. I have been asking for residents of the Middle Parish to be met and this will now take place.
“While this Dáil visit is welcome, an independent investigation is still needed to establish the cause of the Cork flooding, investigate failings in the handling of the crisis once it arose and recommend measures to avoid a
repeat in the future.”
