Cork South Central Fine Gael Senator Jerry Buttimer has found an ingenious method of keeping in touch with constituents while in Leinster House, through online clinics in addition to canvassing, and holding regular clinics .

Senator Buttimer said “The idea behind the online clinics arose from discussions as to how I could stay in contact with constituents other than through email or phone while being in Dublin. We also have a facility whereby people can contact me via video call from my office on Glasheen road. There is a camera and connection available there, so if constituents have any questions or queries they can contact me in a number of methods. “

“I ran an online clinic just before Christmas as a test run and was delighted with the response. It is important I feel that politicians are available to constituents and use all methods of staying in contact. I find through my twitter and face book pages that more people are engaging with the political process. “

“We must ensure that we bring politics to the people, and this is why I will be running regular online clinics. Nothing can replace meeting people in person , but as a politician I am open to new means and methods of connecting and communicating with people. “
