Cork South Central Senator Jerry Buttimer Speaking in the Seanad and following the Tanaiste comments on BBC’s Hard talk programme has accused the Government of failing Ireland’s young people.

“Minster Mary Coughlan is covering for this Government’s failings to the young people of Ireland. What she said about emigration was a “disservice to the young people of Ireland, who have been forced to emigrate due to the incompetence of this Government.”

“The Minster said that some emigration was ‘not a bad thing’ and that Irish young people emigrate to ‘enjoy themselves’. Forced emigration is neither welcome nor an adventure or fun for the many thousands of young people who have been forced to leave these shores.”

“This is an insult to the thousands of Irish young people who have had to emigrate from this country in an effort to find work. Our young people are some of the most qualified and highly skilled people in the World. Instead of trying to get them back into the workforce this government appear to have given up on them. “

“Fine Gael have provided full alternative policies to get our unemployed back to work, to provide hope for our young people this government has forgotten”
