Funding allocations for 2011 to Youth Services Organisations will provide more than €1.9 million to City of Cork VEC. Cork South Central’s Jerry Buttimer, TD, said “funding to City of Cork VEC will ensure the continuation of youth projects which are vital to our young people.
“As part of the funding €1,183,822 will go towards supporting Special Youth Projects which provide support and facilitate the development of those taking part in the schemes. The Ogra Chorcaí Bishopstown Special Project and Togher Youth Development Centre will both receive more than €100,000. The Mahon Youth Development Project which is run by Foróige to support vulnerable young people will receive €115,000.
“The Young People’s Facilities and Services Fund, which aims to tackle drug misuse with the provision of recreational and sport facilities and services, will be supported by €717,463 in the 2011 funding allocations. Some of the local projects that will benefit will from the support of this Fund include BIshopstown Outreach Project, Ballyphehane Action for Youth and Togher Family Centre Limited.
“The YMCA’s Youth Information Centre is to receive €88,886 which will enable it to continue to provide young people with access to information on their rights, health and welfare.
“The services provided by youth organisations are crucial to our community, we must provide young people with recreational facilities and support services that will allow them to overcome the challenges they face. This round of funding will ensure that the young people of Cork have access to services which will help them play an active role in society. It is also recognition of the quality of services that are provided by organisations such as Ogra Chorcaí and Foróige.”
