Cork South Central Fine Gael TD Jerry Buttimer has welcomed the announcement of €100,000 in Smarter Travel Funding for Cork.  The funding, made available to Cork City Council by the Department of Transport, is to be used to by the end of the year.

Deputy Buttimer said “I welcome the of additional funding to assist Cork City Council in rolling out bike stands in the city centre.  The Council intended to install bike stands in 43 new locations and upgrade 6 locations.  The €100,000 in Smarter Travel Funding will complement other monies being provided by the NTA to install cycle lanes.”

“The Minister for Transport has already announced funding for a cycle way linking Douglas to the City Centre, this additional funding will provide necessary storage locations for bikes in the city.  The purpose of this fund is to develop sustainable travel funding and to raise awareness of sustainable travel and transport issues.”
