The Health Committee will discuss the nutritional value of certain foods with Dr. Fiona Lithander, Lecturer in Human Nutrition, Trinity College at its meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, 11th October at 12 noon in Leinster House.

Chairman of the Committee on Health and Children, Jerry Buttimer, TD said: “Childhood obesity and food safety are two of the priority topics that the Committee have identified and our meeting tomorrow with Dr. Lithander provides an opportunity for members of the Committee to be briefed on the issues that surround these topics.  A balanced diet is essential for all of us and through education and the promotion of healthy eating habits we can improve the health and welfare of the population.  Ireland’s growing incidence of diabetes and heart disease can be directly linked to unhealthy eating patterns and habits and it is incumbent on this Committee to seek to assist in reversing this trend.”

The Committee will meet at 12 noon Tuesday, 11th October in Committee Room 4, Leinster House 2000.
