The issue of Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors (NCHDs) will be further examined and discussed by the Committee on Health and Children at its meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 20th October at 11.30 am in Leinster House.
The Committee will be briefed by representatives from the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO) and the Irish Hospital Consultants Association.
Chairman of the Committee on Health and Children, Jerry Buttimer, TD said: “Our meeting tomorrow is the third and final in a series of meetings that we are having with the various groups and stakeholders involved in the area of NCHDs. Over the past weeks we have met with the Minister for Health and the Medical Educationalists on this issue.
The Committee has identified this topic as one of its key policy priorities. Tomorrow’s meeting provides the Committee with an opportunity to discuss the role of the junior doctor in the provision of vital services in our hospitals. We are all aware of the difficulties that face our junior doctors at the coalface in hospitals every day and look forward to discussing the facts with the medial practitioner’s representative bodies tomorrow.”
The Committee will meet at 11.30 am on Thursday, 12th October, in Committee Room 2, Leinster House 2000.
