Fine Gael Cork South Central Deputy, Jerry Buttimer this evening (Thursday) welcomed the move by the HSE to pay travel and subsistence claims to healthcare staff on time.
Deputy Buttimer went on to congratulate the Minister for Health, James Reilly, on his intervention which helped to bring the matter to a satisfactory resolution.
“I am delighted to hear that the HSE has decided to pay staff expense claims which are to be paid on time this month and will not be deferred until January as previously stated.
“The Minister made it clear from the get-go that he was not in favour of this move and that while he had told the HSE that budgets must be adhered to, he did not intend this to happen by the non-payment of bills. His intervention on behalf of staff in this instance has been very helpful.
“Times are tough and even more so at this time of year. Staff will no doubt be pleased that expenses that they have incurred will be paid on time, as they should be.”
