Fine Gael Cork South Central TD, Jerry Buttimer, has today (Tuesday) said that Fáilte Ireland funding for festivals will help make The Gathering 2013 a success.

“Minister Ring has announced Fáilte Ireland is to provide €59,000 in funding for festivals across Cork.  This funding will help to continue the success of these festivals and it will continue Cork’s reputation as a festival city.

“The festivals which will benefit from this funding include Cork’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival, the Ocean to City festival and Cork Craft Month.  Each of the festivals which will benefit have a strong reputation and are key drivers of economic activity, bringing people to Cork for social and recreation activities.

“The Gathering 2013 is an initiative designed to particularly help increase tourism across the country.  This festival funding from Fáilte Ireland will assist in delivering key events to attract visitors to Cork.

“Locally, there is additional funding available from both Cork City and County Councils for Gatherings which will attract at least 10 overseas visitors.  Each Council has access to €30,000 for local projects which, if they meet the criteria, can benefit from grants between €500 and €2,500.

“The government has also secured funding from IPB Insurance which can be used for up to three flag ship events in the county.  I hope that these initiatives will enable communities to participate in The Gathering and to ensure that, in Cork, it will be a success.”
