22nd July 2013

The Committee on Health and Children will meet with Norah Gibbons, Chairperson Designate of the Child and Family Agency tomorrow, Tuesday, 23rd July 2013.

Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said: “Legislation establishing the Child and Family Agency was recently published. Under the legislation, child and family services will be the focus of a single dedicated State agency.

Under the Government’s reform agenda, those who are being proposed for appointment as chairpersons of State boards may be required to make themselves available to the appropriate Oireachtas Committee.

Government has approved the appointment of Norah Gibbons as the first Chairperson Designate of the board of the agency.  Ms Gibbons worked for many years in social work in both the statutory and voluntary sector in the UK and Ireland.  Tomorrow will be our first opportunity to engage with her in her role as Chairperson Designate of the Child and Family Agency where she will have an opportunity to outline what she sees as the priorities and challenges for the agency in the immediate period ahead and into the future. Committee members will have a chance to engage with the Chairperson Designate of the new Child and Family Agency.”

The meeting will start at 2pm in Committee Room 3, Leinster House tomorrow, Tuesday, 23rd July 2013.
