  • 15,000 jobs created by IDA client companies

Confirmation that IDA client companies created more than 15,000 new jobs in 2014 is a clear sign that Ireland is an attractive location for the world’s leading companies.  Over the full year the net increase in jobs was one of the highest in almost a decade.  This shows that we are on a path to recovery and that each year more people are getting back to work.

Since the Government launched its Action Plan for Jobs in 2013 there has been a 24% decrease in the number of people unemployed in Cork.  This trend of job creation is reflected in national figures, which show that the unemployment rate in November was down to 10.7% from a high of 15.1% in Feb 2012.

Cork is set to continue to benefit from investment and job creation over the next few years.  With financial support from Government construction work is due to commence this year on both Pairc Ui Chaoimh and on a new event centre.  There is also a large office building that is being built on Albert Quay.  These projects and the transatlantic connection which will deliver vital Tier 1 fibre connectivity from Cork to the US and UK will be basis for further economic growth and job creation in Cork.
