“I am delighted that Cork has been prioritised for social housing funding. Providing almost €50 million for social housing projects in Cork will help to meet the demand of many families for homes across City and County. Cork is receiving more capital projects under this latest round of funding than any other county. This recognised the need for more housing to be made available in Cork.
“New housing units are badly needed in Cork, with the large demand for homes, and it’s great to see that the money is being provided to meet the needs of our community. This will allow for the construction of 226 units, not only will this create homes for families but it will also create jobs.
“It is great to see that the communities in Douglas, Passage West and Togher will benefit from this money. In Togher, more than €13 million will provide funding for 60 housing units at the old Deanrock site. In Passage West, €4.7 million will allow for 26 units to be build. In Douglas 28 units will be built in Castletreasure for which €6.5 million will be provided.
“This money shows that this Government is prioritising the housing needs of people in Cork. We have a plan to deliver more homes and we are supporting this with the money needed to get these projects to construction.
“Having strong Cork representatives in Government has helped to secure this funding. We must make sure that the people of Cork continue to be represented by TDs in Government who will stand strong for Cork. We need to keep the recovery going so that we can continue investment like this to increase our housing supply.
