A new poll is further evidence of strong support for Norwegian’s planned new transatlantic flights from Cork Airport. Norwegian last year announced plans for flights from Cork Airport to Boston in 2016, followed by New York in 2017. This would be great for everyone in Cork and throughout Munster.

It’s hoped that the transatlantic flights will commence later this year, once the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a foreign carrier permit to the airline’s Irish-based subsidiary Norwegian Air International.

New research carried out by Red C has now found that 82% of Munster residents polled said they would use Norwegian’s planned flights to the U.S. and 96% felt that it was important to have U.S. routes from Cork and Shannon Airports.

These transatlantic flights from Cork will create jobs and more competition and clearly have broad public support. Now all of us need to continue to work to ensure they happen. I’m appealing to the U.S. authorities to make a positive announcement as soon as possible so these services to Boston and New York become a reality.
